March 2nd- March 6th

Reminder:
Please send your child in with a water bottle. We want to be extra careful with our community germs and are trying not to use our cups. However, we also want to be environmentally mindful and not use paper cups. So please help us and send your child in with a water bottle every day. Thank you!

Bird-Sitting: We are in need of volunteers to 'birdsit' during spring break. Please let us know if you are interested.

We have been very diligent about washing our hands between transitions, especially when returning from out time. Please encourage this good habit of washing hands at home as well.

Adler Eagle: If you need to, please do not hesitate to send us pictures to print and paste into the journal. We would be more than happy to do so! Just leave a space for us to put it in and it will be done before your child shares! Thank you again for hosting Adler!

Dear Families,
We had a busy and fun-filled week here in 1S!

In math, we spent time observing Tens Frames and shared our observations. We also practiced subitizing by looking at tens frames and and using what we learned to quickly figure out what the number was. We noticed that counting by 5s is a very useful skill to have as we can recognize it quickly!

We also learned a new strategy called, 'Take and Make'. Please ask your child to show or share this strategy with you!

Durning bird work time, we continued our conversations and explorations of Threatened and Endangered birds. We learned about many of these birds and the cause of their decline. We will be each choosing a bird to advocate for in order to raise more awareness.

We had a winner in the house! Vera won one of the raffles for the Used Book Fair.  Not was it only a a true joy to see the shock on Vera's face when her name was called (we were coming in from a very long out time) but it was even a more beautiful sight to see her classmates shout and cheer for her and share the moment. We did have to have a few conversations with some, who had a hard time accepting they did not win.... Nevertheless, we have no doubt that they were still happy for Vera. Congratulations, Vera!

 .

Recycle!!! We are asking for families to send in your used batteries as our second graders are collecting them.

Adler Eagle has been loving his visits to our families in 1S! This week, he visited Eva and Sophia's house. He has been sharing his amazing adventures in his journals which we have been sharing every time Adler returns to 1S!

We hope everyone has a restful, calm and wonderful weekend.

Best,
MY and Amanda
