Happy Friday,

We had another wonderful week in 1S!

In bird work, we read Feathers, Not Just for Flying by Melissa Stewart. We started our week learning, investigating, and sketching bird feathers. Afterwards, we delved into studying feather anatomy and made our own feather diagrams.

In Math, we continued working with pennies and dimes. We also learned about nickels and practiced counting pennies, nickels and dimes.

We have finished our Star Interviews of our classmates this week! We will continue to interview teachers and faculty members in our community. As our first community guest, we interviewed Gezime Baliaj, who helps us at workshop, out time, snack, and lunch! Thank you, Gezime!

In Ethics, we continued to read and talk about different family structures.

Vinni (Vera's dad), our Mystery Guest, this week, shared his knowledge of Ultimate Frisbee, which is a sport he coaches at the Upper School. It was a wonderful experience to learn about the rules and spirit of Ultimate Frisbee and to try throwing and catching a frisbee. Thank you, Vinni!

Wave Hill was amazing!! It was a bit chilly but definitely a great day to visit! We had a wonderful time learning about feathers, and what birds may eat by observing bird skull models. We also made our own birds with model magic and markers. Thank you to all of our AMAZING chaperones who made our trip so awesome too!

In celebration of our 30th class point, we watched the movie Rio together with 1L (We will be finishing it next week). This was also a great way to start the conversation about endangered birds and birds that live in the rain forest.

We wish everyone a wonderful long weekend! See you on Wednesday!

Best,
MY and Amanda
