Happy Friday,

We had another wonderful week in 1S!

In bird work, we read Feathers, Not Just for Flying by Melissa Stewart. We started our week learning, investigating, and sketching bird feathers. Afterwards, we delved into studying feather anatomy and made our own feather diagrams.

In Math, we continued working with pennies and dimes. We also learned about nickels and practiced counting pennies, nickels and dimes.

We have finished our Star Interviews of our classmates this week! We will continue to interview teachers and faculty members in our community. As our first community guest, we interviewed Gezime Baliaj, who helps us at workshop, out time, snack, and lunch! Thank you, Gezime!

In Ethics, we continued to read and talk about different family structures.

Vinni (Vera's dad), our Mystery Guest, this week, shared his knowledge of Ultimate Frisbee, which is a sport he coaches at the Upper School. It was a wonderful experience to learn about the rules and spirit of Ultimate Frisbee and to try throwing and catching a frisbee. Thank you, Vinni!

Wave Hill was amazing!! It was a bit chilly but definitely a great day to visit! We had a wonderful time learning about feathers, and what birds may eat by observing bird skull models. We also made our own birds with model magic and markers. Thank you to all of our AMAZING chaperones who made our trip so awesome too!

In celebration of our 30th class point, we watched the movie Rio together with 1L (We will be finishing it next week). This was also a great way to start the conversation about endangered birds and birds that live in the rain forest.

We wish everyone a wonderful long weekend! See you on Wednesday!

Best,
MY and Amanda

Dear Families,

Happy Friday! It was a short but fun-filled week with a lot of happening in 1S.

We are at the tail-end of our Star Interviews! It is such a joy to see every child's face light up as they heard their friends chant their names at the end of each interview. We will be also interviewing some faculty and staff members in our school community next week.

In Math, Rosemarie joined us in discussing 'teen' numbers and shared how they should really be called "Onety one (11)", "Onety Two (12)" and so on...

We explored coins (pennies and dimes) and learned how to play Race for a Dime.

In Ethics, we learned have been learning about different family structures. Laura shared wonderful facts about her family!

During our bird work time, we learned many color words we will be using to describe various birds. We also designed our own special bird using many of the color words!

Mystery Guest! Our first Mystery Guest arrive at our classroom door at 8:45 today. It was such joy to see the excitement in everyone's face as they heard the knock on our door and waited for it to open! Please ask your child about our mystery guest and what they loved about it.Thank you, Dana!

Due to the rain on Thursday we had Indoor Choice Time, which lead us to being artists, builders, and makers!

We wish you a restful and relaxing weekend with family and friends.
