Dear Families,

Hard to believe we are already in November! We have already seen your children grow and learn so much since September as we are finishing up another a great week in 1S.

We flew into the start of the week by learning more about different types of wings! We all got a chance to try out soaring, gliding, rapid take-off, hovering and high-speed wings! Then later in the week we showed off our wing knowledge with a fun sorting game!

Our love for and curiosity about birds is ever growing. We even have been using our snack time to look through our New York Bird Guides as we watch the live stream of the Cornell Feeders!

In Math, we continued to practice skip counting by 2s and 5s.  We also began learning about Odd and Even Numbers. We read Even Steven and Odd Todd by Kathryn Cristaldi. The we each made our own odd and even homes!

In Language Arts we have been working in smaller groups working on handwriting and dictation.

In Spanish, we began working on our very own Spanish class calendar. We can't wait to share the finished product that will hang in our classroom!

We had a special read aloud this week, Have you Filled a Bucket Today? By Carol McCloud. Ask your child about what it means to me a bucket 'filler' or a bucket 'dipper' in the invisible bucket that follows us everywhere!

We are getting very excited for the Fieldston Lower Celebration of Books next week! We began working on our class project to help decorate the gym. We based on one of our current class favorites, The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt

We finished the week with two special treats; Mystery Guest and our trip to The Bronx Zoo.

Sara, Noah E.'s mom, joined us today and read a biography of Martin Luther King Jr. The class loved learning about his life and had wonderful questions.

And here are some wonderful pictures of our cold but wonderful trip to the Bronx Zoo!
A special thanks to all of our wonderful chaperones! Thank you, again!

Please stay warm and make sure to take care of yourselves (take those vitamins!). We look forward to seeing 1S on Monday!

Best,
MY and Amanda
